Blogging is… such a winter sport. [For me at least!]

There is much I want to write about in this blog, but the summer weather and activities come first. Stay tuned, when the weather changes so will the frequency of updates. The exception seems to be twitter, see top left widget, which is (sometimes too) frequently updated.

In the mean time...

Oddity!

First, I’ll start by dedicating this video to everyone who has wanted to throw something at Bush. Lets pretend each shoe is for something on your list.

Ofcourse, Bush gave the facts… and apparently flying shoes is not that threatening. For me though… when shoes fly, I’ll be gone. It is nice to know though there are 20 men willing to rush out of a small door from behind the president to save him from flying shoes.

Bush said: “Thanks for apologising on behalf of the Iraqi people. It doesn’t bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw”.

Playing down the incident, the president later added: “I don’t know what the guy’s cause is… I didn’t feel the least bit threatened by it.”

So at least remember that when you want to throw something at the president, tell him your cause!

Now for everyones favorite water cooler topic, the weather:

What are the chances of TWO posts in a row about the weather being above 50 degrees? SLIM seeing as it is the middle of December! That’s right, Pittsburgh is in another heat wave. Once again it warmed up and I celebrated today by washing my truck (outside without freezing my hands) and then Christmas-tizing the grandma’s house with lights. Afterwards, it was an exciting two minute end to the Steelers surprising victory.

Tomorrow is looking to be up around 56 again, which will be perfect for walking around and covering the stuff on my shopping list.

It’s strange… Christmas is literally right around the corner, yet I still feel like it is in the distance and this warm weather isn’t helping. I know it’s not though because iCal is kindly reminding me of the little time I have left to finish everyones home brewed Christmas gifts. My goal is to have the gifts done before Christmas eve this year. We’ll see though…

Happy Easter!

Now that it’s Easter, it is starting to feel alot like spring (and the weather may be finally getting the memo as well.) My Leprechaun traps came up dry, Lent is over, the Easter Bunny hid my basket well, the car was washed without the locks freezing, the temperature is on the up all this week, and the daylight is intruding into the evenings. Yes, it is starting to feel like spring.
One of the best things about this time of year is that I get a change to refresh myself for the spring season with Lent. I am not the most religious person in the world, mostly because I have some major beefs with religion for several reasons – something for another day – but I do look forward to Lent each year. It is a time for me to challenge myself on personal and sometimes physical level. For that reason, I really like the concept of Lent because it allows a person to grow. This year I decided to give up the snoooooze alarm.
The snooze alarm was an evil bugger that would even put my whole day behind schedule. Plus, I would just be falling asleep again when the soft ear piercing beeps would be starting up again. Every time those beeps would go off, I could feel stress and anger building inside of me – not good. So looking at how I felt when the alarms of the day went off along with the numerous studies that have been published, I felt it was only right to start waking up on a positive note.
—Fast track all of Lent—-
So now that Lent is over…. I can proudly say that I have succeeded in not using the snooze alarm once. I can also add that I did not use any secondary alarms as well. For me, this is a really good accomplishment. There were days when I was working till 1AM and had to wake up at 4:30AM for work. Normally the 4:30 wake up would require 2 or 3 punches, but I managed to push myself to the hot shower and just jump start my day (which now conveniently had time for some morning grub.)
Eventually, as Lent progressed, I started noticing how much easier it was for me to wake up when the alarm went off – sometimes I’d even wake up the alarm before it could wake me. It turns out that once I got into the rhythm of waking up without the snooze, there was only a handful of days I yearned for it.
So come Monday morning tomorrow the snooze will be fair game, however, I think I have kicked the habit for now and I am looking forward to using it as little as possible.
Now that I have succeeded in refreshing my mornings, I am ready for spring. To kick off spring and celebrate the holiday, I have a veggie roast in a beer batter getting ready for supper tonight. mmmmmm mmmm.

It’s amazing how the weather can change a day… the nice dose of spring was well welcomed.

I can only wonder how the people in northern Finland are gearing up for spring. I think that it is great just to come out of the freezing cold, but to be coming out of months of darkness and freezing cold… well that must really be exciting and mood changing.

I can only relate to them from the times I have gotten up at 4:30am for work and finished the day at 10PM. Those were long days, but the worst part by far was going to work in darkness and coming home in darkness. Never seeing the daylight screwed with me.
I love to travel, but I think I’d have a hard time actually ‘living’ in a country that the sun does not rise in the winter. In contrast, I’m sure they welcome the darkness in the winter since the sun doesn’t really set in the summer.
